Florida mayor, 72, brutally attacked by boyfriend, 34, at $1M bubblegum pink mansion, court told
A Florida mayor testified that his 34-year-old ex-boyfriend threw him to the ground during a violent alleged assault outside his $1million pink mansion.
Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, 72, appeared virtually before a Broward County court to accuse his former partner, Daniel Curran, of the attack.
Curran was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with violation of a domestic violence injunction and for battery of a person 65 and older.
Trantalis took out the injunction a few months ago, telling the judge their relationship was a ‘very complicated situation’.
Trantalis, a Democrat, said he and Curran were reconnecting at the time of the alleged attack as he wanted to help ‘rehabilitate Danny’ and ‘hopefully steer him into counseling and mental health treatment’.
‘And I failed at that,’ he told the judge. ‘At the end, this past weekend, he threw me to the ground. He committed everything that’s in the information with regard to the violent act against me, and then I realized that there was no hope for this relationship.’
The couple began dating in March and had previously lived together, the police report said.
On Saturday, Curran allegedly pushed the mayor ‘with both hands,’ causing Trantalis to attempt to ‘fight him off’ at his home, the arrest report stated.

In the commotion, Curran grabbed Trantalis by the leg and pulled him to the ground, dragging him approximately 15 feet across the road according to an arrest report.
Trantalis suffered injuries to his wrist, left leg, and right knee, according to Local 10 News.
Curran was arrested and the judge set his bond at $6,000 for contempt of court and for the battery charge.
He has also been ordered to not contact the politician and to not return to Trantalis’ home. He also cannot have firearms, weapons, or ammunition but has paid his bond.
The Broward County District Attorney’s Office has requested the State Attorney’s Office move the case to another jurisdiction, as Fort Lauderdale is in the county.
Curran goes by DannyTrantalis on Instagram and referred to himself as the ‘first gentleman’ of Fort Lauderdale.
