Police officer working JD Vance’s motorcade is left fighting for his life after crash with state trooper

A police officer who was working in JD Vance’s motorcade is fighting for his life in hospital after his motorcycle collided with a state trooper’s car.

Officer Justin Brown remains in a critical condition following the crash, which unfolded in Maryville, just outside Knoxville, Tennessee, on Friday evening.

Brown was ‘providing a dignitary protection detail escort for Vice President JD Vance’ when he collided with a Tennessee Highway Patrol SUV unit at 6.11pm, according to police.

And the horror was said to have been witnessed by a group of bystanders who gave Brown life-saving first aid.

‘To those individuals whose quick response saved FTO Brown’s life last night, we could never thank you enough. You are true heroes,’ said Maryville Police Department Chief Tony Crisp.

Brown was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Hospital, where he remains with significant injuries. He underwent surgery on Saturday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. No further details have been given.

Chief Crisp said his department has received hundreds of messages of support via email, social media and over the phone.

‘We are grateful for each and every one and appreciate the prayers and support from all over the state,’ said Chief Crisp.

‘Our hearts and prayers also go out to the trooper involved in the crash.’

He later added that Brown has begun to make small improvements.

‘We know the prayers of the community continue to cover him,’ said Crisp.

‘His progress is expected to be gradual and he will remain hospitalized for an extended period of time, but we are grateful for the improvement we have seen since Friday.’

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) told the Daily Mail their state trooper was ‘evaluated on the scene by paramedics’ and did not need hospital treatment.

‘The crash remains under investigation,’ a spokesman said.

Brown is a popular member of his local CrossFit community – a group which frequently shares social media posts about him winning fitness competitions.

They shared a message of support for Brown on Facebook following the crash, which unfolded on East Lamar Alexander Parkway at Merrit Road in Maryville.

The Daily Mail has also reached out to Vance’s office for more information about the collision.

The Vice-President was in east Tennessee on Friday for a fundraising event at Blackberry Farm in Walland, according to local media.

He landed at McGhee Tyson Airport at around 5.30pm Friday evening and was being driven from the airfield when the crash unfolded.
